How to Pause Updates on Windows 10

If you’re not ready right now, you can pause Updates on Windows 10 operating system and allow these to happen on your preferred day.

Windows 10 automatically downloads and installs available updates. While this is a good habit, but it can sometimes be a problem for some users. There are generally some reasons to delay updates, such as – You may be using the Internet from a mobile hotspot and there may be a data shortage. Or you may find that updates are incompatible with applications and programs installed on your computer.

So we are moving towards a solution without discussing the problem much. In both Windows Ten Home and Pro versions, updates can be delayed up to 7, 14, 21, 28 and 35 days as desired.

Pause Updates on Windows 10 through following steps

  1. go to > settings ( Click or tap the Start button and then you will find Settings shortcut, on the left  )
  2. click on > update and security 
  3. Then click > Windows Update in the left-pane
  4. Then in the right-pane you will see > Pause updates for 7 days option (if not see scroll down), click on it

This way the update of your computer’s Windows operating system is delayed for seven days, after seven days it will be automatically downloaded and installed.

If you want to do this for an additional seven days, click > Pause Updates for 7 more days  and thus the update was paused for 14 days.

This way if you want to stop the update for 35 days then you have to click on this Pause updates for 7 more days option 5 times.

Pause Updates on Windows 10 until the selected date

  1. go to > settings ( Click or tap the Start button and then you will find Settings shortcut, on the left  )
  2. click on > update and security 
  3. Then click > Windows Update in the left-pane
  4. Then in the right-pane you will see > Advanced options. option (if not see scroll down), click on it
  5. Next, click > Pause until , drop-down and set the Date as long you want to stop the update.

This allows you to delay your Windows 10 update until a certain date. When that date appears, it will be automatically downloaded and installed on your PC.

Pause Updates on Windows 10 for more than 35 days

On top we showed two processes to pause Auto Update. This is the third, in it your WiFi or Ethernet Network will prevent Windows 10 update to download. Follow the steps step by step, you will be able to do it.

After doing this you will not be bothered by updates for a very long time. But it is a good habit to get the update on time. When you have no problem, do it immediately.

Disable automatic updates using administrative tools

If you are currently using an older version of Windows 10, you can disable auto updates by following the steps below.

  1. Click or tap the > Start button
  2. Click on > Run
  3. In Run command, type services.msc then click on Ok
  4. A new window will appear on the Services screen, next right-click on Windows Update and then click on Properties.
  5. Then click on Startup type down-arrow. And then click the Disabled button.
  6. The last step is to click on Apply and then click on OK. Now it is complete.
